MGM Grand, Las Vegas - WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. discussed the post-fight incident with HBO analyst Larry Merchant. After Mayweather knocked out Victor Ortiz in four rounds, tempers boiled over during his post-fight interview with Merchant.
"You don't never give me a fair shake," Mayweather said. "So I'm gonna let you talk to Victor Ortiz, alright? I'm through. Put somebody else up here to give me an interview. HBO need to fire you because you don't know sh*t about boxing. You ain't sh*t."
Merchant, 80-years-old, shocked everyone by telling Mayweather - "I wish I was 50 years younger and I would kick your ass."
Mayweather had no remorse about his comments - "I don't regret what I said."
"Everybody is tired of Larry Merchant. Everybody is tired of him."
"He said if he was 50 years younger, that he would kick my ass. All of these boxing experts. How can you be a boxing expert if you never had a fight before? He's a boxing expert [pointing to trainer Roger Mayweather]. I'm a boxing expert. To be an expert at something, you had to have done it before. It's easy to say what a guy can or can't do if you've never been inside and done something before. I know how it is in the ring. It's totally different."
"When these fighters are looking in the ring, they say 'I can beat Floyd.' But when they're in there, it's totally different. I dont look at any fighter like that. I don't overlook no fighter. Larry Merchant, I'm not worried about him. I live positive but if something makes me mad or upset or I feel something is not right, I'm going to speak on it. He never gives me a fair shake. Let me tell my fans thank you for coming out and buying the pay-per-view. Can I tell my fans thank you? Is that okay? That's all I ask. "
