WBO/WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still not considering the possibility of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, because he is upset with the Filipino star's post-fight comments where he refused to acknowledge defeat.
After the fight was over, Pacquiao stated that he should have been awarded the fight and felt the official judges were wrong.
The two boxers fought in the richest event in boxing history on May 2nd, with Mayweather winning a twelve round unanimous decision when the smoke was cleared. The officials scores were 118-110, 116-112, 116-112.
Upon his arrival to the Philippines several days ago, Pacquiao told local reports that he reviewed the fight several times and found himself the winner in every viewing by at least a 115-113 score (7 rounds to 5).
Pacquiao claims that he aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the fourth round of the fight, but even with the injury he felt that he had won enough rounds to get the decision.
Mayweather hints that he would have considered the idea of a rematch - if Pacquiao would have admitted defeat in the aftermath.
"I think no [the rematch is not possible] because, I mean, if he would've been honest and said 'you know what - Floyd was better the man. I lost' [then maybe it was possible]. I told you guys many years ago there is going to be excuses. I done what I had to do," Mayweather told DJ. Whoo Kid on Shade 45 Radio.
"If people want to be upset, be upset with the guy who couldn't set the traps for Floyd Mayweather. Be upset at the guy who used to throw 1,000 punches and then resorted to throwing 400 punches. Please don't be mad at me, I'm a winner and I've done what I had to do. I wish Pacquiao nothing but the best, I did what I had to do and I was the better man."
The fight broke all records - with 4.4 million buys, a $72 million dollar gate at the MGM Grand and $500 million in revenue is expected when all of the dollars are added up.
