Earlier this month, Mayweather Promotions staged their most recent fight card at Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. In the main event, junior welterweight contender Ashley Theophane (40-7) outpointed Yakubu Amidu (19-9) over ten rounds of action.
BoxingScene.com spoke with Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe during the show to get his take on the series.
"It is a great opportunity to keep our fighters busy. This is a great venue. The fans come here and we sell out every time we have a card here. There isn't a bad seat in the house," Ellerbe stated.
Veteran fighters such as Theophane appearing on the cards will be the exception and not the norm.
With the Mayweather Promotions roster expanding, the shows will be held to help their younger fighters grow and gain experience while televised appearances are becoming harder to come by for rising prospects.
"This is all about building these young fighters, giving them opportunities to stay busy because when you are young the key to having a successful career is to stay active and that is what Floyd wants to do," said Ellerbe.
The shows will be held on a monthly basis, usually on Fridays.
