Mayweather Boxing Club, Las Vegas - Luis Sandoval catches up with WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. In less than a week, Mayweather will face Marcos Maidana in a Showtime Pay-Per-View rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
While answering questions about his own promotional company, Mayweather Promotions, Mayweather took a moment to praise Richard Schaefer, the former CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.
Back in June, Schaefer parted ways with Golden Boy. There is now an ongoing legal battle between Schaefer and his former employer. When Schaefer left Golden Boy, there were rumors that he would join Mayweather's company, which is run by CEO Leonard Ellerbe. Mayweather certainly left the door open for that possibility.
"I commend and take my hat off to Richard Schaefer....a great guy. Richard Schaefer took Golden Boy Promotions from the ground to where it's at right now. He did a great job with that company. He is still a very, very good friend of mine. And we can't say what the future holds for me and Richard but he's still a great guy and he will remain my friend. Me and Leonard are working hand and hand. Leonard is doing all of the day to day work with Mayweather Promotions, he and the staff. It's taken a lot of pressure off me so I can focus on the fight," Mayweather said.
