Floyd Mayweather Jr. said his opponents need to come up with a new gameplan if they want to beat him in the ring. Juan Manuel Marquez plans to put a lot of pressure on Mayweather when they meet in the ring on September 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He plans to throw a lot of punches to break Mayweather down. Floyd is not worried, he says Ricky Hatton had the same plan in December of 2007. That was Mayweather's last fight, and he stopped Hatton and handed the Manchester fighter his first loss by way of knockout.
"Thirty-nine fighters had a plan. Ricky Hatton had the same gameplan to throw a lot of punches and keep the pressure on. These fighter need to come up with a new gameplan," Mayweather said.
Mayweather agrees with the recent comments by Oscar De La Hoya, that Floyd has most of the pressure in the fight.
"If Marquez gets beat, or gets punish or gets knocked out, he will still be loved because he lost to the best. When I face Pacquiao, and he goes back his country, they are still going to love him. In the U.S. it doesn't work like that so we have to work harder. If I win it's normal. If a guy gives me a tough fight or comes close to winning - then it's not normal. Everyone expect me to dominate," Mayweather said.
In some of the recent media reports, Marquez has been compared to Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez. Mayweather does not see Marquez being on the same level.
"I dont think Marquez is on the level of a Julio Cesar Chavez. Chavez is the biggest fighter to come out of Mexico. Marquez is more of a boxer/counter-puncher. Chavez doesn't get the credit he deserves. He was a very good defensive fighter," Mayweather said.
