WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26KOs) discussed his plans for the future with Mayweather Promotions. On Saturday night in Detroit, the first champion under the Mayweather Promotions banner was crowned, when Ishe Smith captured the IBF 154-pound title with a twelve round split decision over Cornelius "K9" Bundrage. He also discussed the comparisons with current WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22KOs), who models his style and showmanship after Mayweather.

"Ishe is going down in history, the first world champion under Mayweather Promotions. After I'm long gone, the Mayweather brand will live on. I [work with Golden Boy because I] don't want to have a bad relationship [with other promoters] like Don King and Bob Arum had. Like he had with Don King Promotions and Arum had with Top Rank. I feel that there is a lot to go around and we should be able to work together. It was good to see so many many up and coming champions today, like Adrien Broner. They're comparing Adrien Broner to me, which is a good thing. I think he's a young, tough lion. Hopefully one day I can hand the torch to him and then he can carry the torch and pass it to another fighter," Mayweather said.

"We don't know what the future holds [for Adrien Broner]. I'm not a psychic. I can not predict the future, but hopefully he can breaks my numbers. I have nothing bad to say about him. He comes from the same type of background that I come from. It took hard work and dedication, praise and belief in a good team. That's how I got to where I got to today. He's a hell of a young champion and I wish him nothing but the best. If I can give him any advice, I will always give him positive advice. If it's something that's not right then I'll tell him it's not right, because I don't want him to make the same mistakes that I made."

Mayweather also hit back at the critics who try to put a wedge between him and Broner, asking for the two of them to face each other, and also at the critics who attack Broner for fighting in Mayweather's style.

"[For people who say it's the Philly shell], it's not the Philly shell. It's the Mayweather style. When you see someone fighting like that on TV, they say 'that's the Mayweather style,' so I can't say that it's the Philly shell. That's what I was taught from the beginning. That's no different from when you watch certain basketball players play like Michael Jordan and Michael Jordan plays like Dr. J. Why wouldn't [Broner] want to fight like the best? And then they try to criticize him [for fighting in that style]. How do you criticize him if he's following greatness? His ultimate goal is to be great so he should follow greatness and when there is another young champion coming up, they should follow Adrien Broner. It's about passing the torch, helping one another. I'm here to help him, not to hurt him."

"My dad taught me the style and I perfected it. I feel that me and Adrien Broner is like this....when we have fun, play basketball and talk.....and I know the media tries to get me and little brother to bump heads. But it's like this, I always tell Adrien Broner [that] Daniel-son never went against Mr. Miyagi. Don't let them try to make us bump heads. My ultimate  goal is to help you, not to hurt you. He's under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, but he's a friend of mine so I only want the best for him."
