While there is some interest in a rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. - not everyone is interested. A few weeks ago, the two fighters reached a deal to fight in the first quarter of 2010. The rematch has taken 16-years to make. Jones won a decision over Hopkins in 1993 to win the vacant IBF middleweight title. Some critics are not happy with the idea of paying $50 dollars to watch two fighters in their 40s battle it out. There are those who don't view the fight as a positive to push the sport forward.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. told CBS Sports that he agrees with the critics. He doesn't want to watch them fight. He would rather see Hopkins take a better challenge - like the recognized top light heavyweight in the world, Chad Dawson. Dawson returns on November 7 in a rematch with Glen Johnson on HBO.
"I guess we have two granddads. I would like to see Bernard Hopkins face a better challenge, like Chad Dawson. I don't want to see it [Hopkins-Jones II]. Not taking anything away from Roy Jones. I like Roy Jones [but to watch him against] Bernard Hopkins - absolutely not," Mayweather said.
