Former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) has continued to push a fantasy fight with UFC featherweight world champion Conor McGregor.
On Sunday Mayweather circulated an unofficial fight poster through the social networks, plugging away to create a false hype for a fight that very few, if any, believe will ever happen.
Mayweather retired from the sport last September after winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In recent interviews, Mayweather has discussed the possibility of a ring return in the fall - and named McGregor as the only opponent he would actually consider for a comeback.
McGregor is beyond an underdog in such a contest. He was busted up and submitted by Nate Diaz in March. Rematch discussions fell apart for UFC 200.
Mayweather made it clear that he would only face McGregor in a traditional boxing match. He says there is no possibility of a bout under MMA rules, and that suits McGregor just fine.
"Again, I don't really care about rules. He can make all the rules he wants," he told ESPN's Kenny Mayne. "I know he would not want to fight in a mixed martial arts contest, in a true fight. If he wants to fight in a limited fight that's no problem, we can do that.
"I will set aside many other forms of fighting that I practice in and I will focus on one particular craft. I'm in the game of spinning plates. I'm spinning a boxing plate, I'm spinning a Tae Kwondo plate, I'm spinning a Jiu-Jitsu plate, I'm spinning a freestyle wrestling plate and a Karate plate. There's so many spinning plates in this game. If I was to just put all them down and have one boxing plate spinning it'd be like a load off my shoulders."
