Former world champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga is disputing a recent press release that was issued by promoter Don King, who claimed in an issued statement that he was once again promoting the Nicaraguan fighter. Mayorga says he broke ties with King in 2011.

Mayorga last fought in March of 2011, losing by way of a twelfth round knockout at the hands of Miguel Cotto. After not receiving any offers from King, he entered the cage of Mixed Martial Arts and held several fights before deciding to return to boxing at the end of last year.

"I'll never fight for Don King's company. He never cared about me and left me and my family hungry in Nicaragua. He never helped me financially when I needed it. Also, I haven't had any connection with him since 2011. I'm not interested in any fight offered to me by Don King," Mayorga said.

Ivaylo Gotzev, the adviser to Mayorga, says there several inaccurate statements made in King's release.

"King sent a self-serving press release. I'm not here to fight with King in the media, I'm here to state the facts. He said Mayorga was retired and that's not true. Mayorga never retired. Mayorga has not been offered a fight from King in three years. Mayorga brought me in to help him with career. We are going to get him back on track with a few good fights, but we're taking things step by step," Gotzev said.
