Don King has decided on a new date and venue for a proposed heavyweight bout between Kubrat Pulev and Michael Hunter – presuming that the fight will be contested at all.

The Hunter-Pulev fight has been rescheduled for October 4 and assigned to Miami’s Jai-Alai Fronton Casino, according to a Wednesday press release sent by Don King Productions (DKP).

King won a purse bid in May to promote a fight between Pulev, the WBA’s secondary heavyweight titleholder, and Hunter, the WBA’s No. 1-ranked contender, that was initially set for August 23 at a location to be determined.

One small problem remains: Hunter may already be lined up for another fight.

As Ring Magazine recently reported, Hunter is set to square off against Jarrell Miller on September 11 at Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

In the release, DKP doesn’t mention a proposed Miller-Hunter fight specifically but acknowledges legal entanglements with Epic Sports and Entertainment, which King says, “continue[s] to spread lies that Hunter is unavailable for this fight.”

King’s promotion has been fighting a battle through the media to not only push through the fight but also seemingly maintain control of Hunter, with whom DKP notes it “still has a binding three-year contract,” signed in February 2024.

“It’s all corruption, fraud, bribery, rigged schemes and crooked scams by Epic Sports appealing to the WBA for reconsideration of the WBA purse bid, for Pulev vs Hunter, which DKP won,” King said in a statement. “Now Epic Sports is trying to change and to nullify the bout. This clouds the atmosphere with lies and the deception of the truth, fake and false news.”

Whether Pulev-Hunter comes to fruition or Hunter winds up taking on Miller at Allegiant Stadium next month, it seems King’s October 4 show will go on. King said the card will also feature DKP fighters Blair Cobbs, Adrien Broner, and former WBC cruiserweight titleholder Noel Mikaelian.
