BoxingScene.com recently caught up with long time contender Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34KOs). The Argentine faces Viktor Postol for the vacant WBC super lightweight title on Saturday, October 3rd in Southern California. HBO will televise the fight along with the Humberto Soto-Antonio Orozco co-featured bout.
Matthysse has campaigned as a super lightweight for many years and doesn't plan on moving up in weight in the near future.
"For now I want to stay at 140. I want to win the title and and defend it a few times and then I want to move up. There a are a lot of great fighters at 147 and I want to fight them," said Matthysse.
One fighter who recently made the move to welterweight is former 140 pound unified champion Danny Garcia, who outpointed Matthysse in 2013. The soon to be 33-year-old said that he would love to get another shot at Garcia once he moves up in weight.
"Yes I would definitely like to fight Danny Garcia again in the future. He is a great fighter and one of the best out there. I am interested in facing the best fighters and if Garcia is still considered one of the best I am interested in fighting him," Matthysse told BoxingScene.com.
