Martin Joseph Ward is set for a return to action in the coming months.
The British super-featherweight champion was last in action in November when he retained his crown against Ronnie Clark in London, exclusively live on Sky Sports.
And the undefeated 25-year-old (16-0-2, 8 KOs) will return to the same platform when he comes back to the squared circle against Maxi Hughes.
Hughes (16-2-2, 2 KOs), with whom Ward has already clashed twice in the paid code, was mandated to face the Essex-based orthodox puncher, with the winner being ordered to face 27-year-old Anthony Cacace (15-0, 7 KOs) in their next fight by the British Boxing Board of Control.
The pair have shared a ring, as previously mentioned, twice before, with the first fight ending in a majority draw and then Ward winning the rematch –– and the vacant WBC International title at the weight –– after Hughes retired after five rounds with a badly damaged nose.
Boxing Scene understands that the trilogy fight will land on March 25 at Manchester Arena, as part of the undercard to Anthony Crolla’s rematch against Jorge Linares for the WBA, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine lightweight titles, with social media posts from Hughes’ team pointing in that direction.
An official announcement regarding the fight is expected to be made by promoter Eddie Hearn in due course.
