There is a growing debate in the Mexican press and a number Mexican boxers were polled by Sal Rodriguez. They were asked one question, on which young Mexican boxer is better - Saul "Canelo" Alvarez or Julio Cesar Chavez. Many of the established veterans were on the side of Chavez.
Juan Manuel Marquez - I think it's a tough fight for both, but I'm with Chavez because of his boxing, height, distance, he throw more combinations, and throws more punches to the body.
Rafael Marquez - Julio Cesar Chavez would win, 100%. Julio has faced a little higher level of opponents. He throws better combinations, works well and he should win without trouble.
Fernando Montiel - Julio Cesar Chavez should win. He has more experience. He's had wars in the ring, and maybe they were not with wars with big names, but he showed a bit more than Canelo.
Carlos Zarate - I think Chavez should win. He has more experience, but it would be a tough fight for both.
Jorge Arce - Junior has more talent. He's the bigger of the two and I think the advantages go to Chavez.
Daniel Zaragoza - I like the way Chavez boxes. With all due respect, Canelo leaves the impressions that he still has more learning to do.
