This Saturday, WBO and WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KOs) will collide with Juan Diaz (35-3, 17 KOs) in a rematch of their Feburary 2009 Fight of the Year, which was won by Marquez via ninth-round knockout. The fight will be carried on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Marquez is staying focused on Diaz, but his dream is to eventually have a third fight with Manny Pacquiao, the WBO welterweight champion. They fought to a draw in 2004, and Pacquiao won a controversial twelve round split decision in their 2008 rematch.
"Pacquiao don't want to fight me. He's scared. I'm going give the fight to the people. I'm going to win four championships where Pacquiao will be forced to fight me," Marquez told FanHouse. "He don't want to fight me because I think he's scared."
Marquez has also been in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr., who won dominating twelve round decision when they met in the ring last September. There is still an ongoing debate as to which fighter deserves the title of "pound for pound king." Marquez, who faced both, says Mayweather is a better fighter than Pacquiao.
"I think Mayweather [is better] because he has a difficult style. He has a difficult style. For that fight, you need two fighters. Mayweather, he's very difficult to connect punches [on him]. He's a tough fighter," Marquez said.
