Swindon’s Marlon Reid, 27, knocked out tough traveler Ernie Smith last Friday, and the middleweight boxer is now hoping to have a rest, before resuming his assault on the British rankings.
Reid is now 4-0 (2), the Smith win was an exclamation victory; Ernie has lost a good few fights, but he is a very tough man to stop, let alone blow away in a single round. Reid told the Swindon Advertiser that Friday’s win is a sure sign that his career is progressing nicely.
“I was very pleased with how it went on Friday,” he said. “Especially that the fans said my fight with Ernie was the best piece of entertainment on the evening. Nothing’s been confirmed yet, so I’m not sure who I will be fighting next. I am just taking the next few days off to relax a bit and then just wait and see what happens.”
Reid trains out of Bristol; he is heading in the right direction, but he still has his feet on the ground. “It’s just the beginning and I’m still in my early days, so I will just be patient and see where I end up,” he explained. “I think realistically I need to get my record to around 12-0 before I even start thinking about the titles, so again I’m in no rush and I will just keep boxing the way I am.”
Marlon turned professional with a points win over Gary Cooper last October, the fighter is quietly learning his trade, and the Smith win has garnered him some rave reviews from British boxing fans.
