Former WBC super middleweight champ Markus Beyer has passed away at the age of 47 at a hospital in Berlin after what German media describes as a short time of serious illness.

Beyer turned pro in 1996 after a long and successful amateur career promoted by Sauerland Event and trained by Ulli Wegner. He was moved fast and won the WBC title in 1999 with a points win over Richie Woodhall. However, in 2000 Beyer seemed on his way to a win over a solid opponent in Glenn Catley when he gradually fell apart and was stopped and it was as if he was never able to get back to 100% after that.

He did regain the WBC title with a split decision over Eric Lucas and then came the controversial DQ win ove Danny Green and a split decision loss to Cristian Sanavia - a man he later beat and beat Danny Green a second time as well and held on to the title until getting knocked out by Mikkel Kessler in 2006.

Beyer retired but came back in 2008 but was forced to retire again due to serious back problems. He retired with a 35-3-1 record and was a good boxer, a southpaw with serious power in his left.

The 40-year old former WBA, WBO and EBU light heavyweight champ Juergen Braehmer, 49-3, takes on Argentinean veteran Pablo Daniel Zamora Nieves, 33-16-1, December 15 in Hamburg in an eight-rounder made at super middle.

Braehmer have been out of the ring since beating Rob Brant in a quarterfinal in the WBSS tournament in October of last year. Braehmer is official challenger for the EBU title currently held by Robin Krasniqi.

French middleweight prospect Christian Mbili, 12-0, will now take on a very late sub in Belorus Ilya Kharlamou, 8-2, at the Zenith in Paris tomorrow (Dec 4). Mbili was all set to take on Armenian, based in France, Armen Ypremyan but he is out.

EuroProm stage an interesting show in Brive (France) December 7. Topping the bill is EU welter champ Jordy Weiss, 20-0, who defends the title against Spaniard José Del Rio, 28-7-1.

At heavyweight Cyril Leonet, 14-10-3, takes on German Dennis Lewandowski, 13-2, with the vacant WBFed Int´l title at stake. In the third headliner cruisers Brandon Deslaurier, 11-2-1, and Jean Jacques Oliver, 9-2, clash for the vacant national title.
