Marco Antonio Barrera continued his UK tour with a visit to Wolverhampton over the weekend and took the opportunity to explain his plans for the immediate future to the awaiting media.
The 38 year-old Mexican legend has been out of the ring for a year since defeating compatriot Jose Arias in two rounds and may not lace up the gloves again professionally if the right contract offer isn’t forthcoming.
“I am waiting this year, if there’s a good offer with good money than I will take it,” Barrera told expressandstar.com.
“I want good fights but, if it comes to the end of the year and there’s still nothing, I will hang up the gloves.
“I have got all of the experience, I am still strong and, looking at the current situation with champions, there are several of them that I could beat.”
Barrera has held world belts in three weight classes spanning a 22-year career and 75 fights. ‘The Babyfaced Assassin had been linked to fourth meeting with rival Erik Morales sometime in 2012 and could be in the frame to meet ‘El Terrible’ before the year is out.
