On Monday BoxingScene's David "Los Gatos" Rosenberg reported that Barker's promoter had reached and agreement for the unbeaten Brit to face Sergio Martinez on October 1st which leaves Manfredo in the driver's seat to face Chavez Jr.
BoxingScene caught up with the Pride of Providence to get his thoughts on the possibility of facing Chavez.
Manfredo told BoxingScene, "I would love to get an opportunity to fight Chavez Jr. for the WBC title. I think he is a good fighter. I have great respect for him and for his dad, Who was a great fighter and is a legend."
The former IBO middleweight champion would welcome another title shot and looks forward to fighting for the title with his father in his corner. He feels that all of the hard work that he and his father have put in the gym would pay off with the title going back to Manfredo's home town of Providence, Rhode Island.
"It also would be great winning another world title with my dad. We worked very hard to get back into this position and I would love the chance to put another belt around my waist."
