French promoter MK Event will stage the fight for the vacant EBU welterweight title on December 9 in Paris - between Paulie Malignaggi (36-7, 7KOs) and Ahmed El Mousaoui (24-2-1, 6KOs), as announced by the EBU on its website. Malignaggi´s European career saw him win the EU title last year.
Maeki Boxing, headed by Pekka Maeki, won purse bids in Rome for EBU lightweight champ Edis Tatli´s mandatory defence against Italian Manuel Lancia (14-1-1). Maeki bid 105,000 Euro and will stage the fight in Finland with date and site to be announced. Sauerland came in second with a bid for 63,005 Euro and Italian Buccioni Boxing Team bid 40,080 Euro.
Tatli is now 28 -1 and has held the EBU title since April of 2015. Maeki Boxing will also stage Mariano Hilario´s (16-4) defence of the EU super middleweight title against Niklas Rasanen (13-0).
Wladimir Klitschko's manager says Tyson Fury will undergo a doping test before the two fighters meet in their heavyweight rematch next month.
Bernd Boente says doping tests for both fighters are written into the contract for the Oct. 29 fight in Manchester and will be conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, based in Las Vegas.
Fury beat Klitschko in November to claim the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF titles. A rematch was originally scheduled for July 9 but was postponed after Fury said he sustained an ankle injury.
It was disclosed in August, on the same day Fury announced the injury, that the new champion had been charged by the U.K. Anti-Doping agency and suspended from the sport after testing positive for a banned substance.
Fury and his cousin Hughie, a heavyweight boxer who was also suspended, had their bans lifted "pending full determination of the charges," UKAD said in August.
