Queensberry PromotionsWith just over a week to go until Daniel Dubois again takes on Fabio Wardley, and two months before Tyson Fury does battle with Anthony Joshua, Dubois is already visualising what might come next.
In his ideal world, both he and Fury win to set up a showdown between the victorious pair.
Dubois, 23-3 (22 KOs), defeated Wardley in 11 rounds in May, the Londoner’s first victory since flattening Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September 2024.
Now the WBO heavyweight beltholder, Dubois has one eye on another bumper all-British matchup.
“What a fight that would be,” Dubois told Sky Sports of a potential clash with Fury.
“It's like me and AJ all over again. That sort of magnitude. That's what boxing's about really. Frank [Warren, promoter] would love it, he's got both of us. I've got to come through my next fight and anything's possible.”
Dubois will start as a healthy favorite to repeat his success over Wardley. Though dropped twice early in their first encounter, he was in control by the halfway mark before administering the kind of beatdown that suggested he could simply pick up where he left off in the October 17 sequel.
Wardley’s durability was as much a feature of the first fight as Dubois’ potency. The underdog has developed a reputation for surviving difficult moments before turning contests around with his power.
“I'm not looking past Fabio at all,” Dubois said.
“One fight at a time. I'm just dedicating myself 100 percent to this fight and he's a true competitor, a true warrior and I'm just looking forward to getting in there and giving the fans another great fight.
“They were gambling with him. Obviously he's known for getting bashed up and coming back so that's what they must have been gambling on. But I'm a different animal and I just keep getting stronger as the rounds go on.
“We're just going to do even better than the first time. You'll see on the night.”
Then, Dubois hopes, Fury could follow.
He has mixed feelings about the December 11 showdown between Fury and Joshua, however.
“I think Fury [wins],” Dubois said. “Everyone's been talking about this fight for such a long time. It'll be good to see them both get into the ring. Two legends of British boxing.”
Even so, Dubois added: “I don't even care about that fight.”
