After endless talking in the last few weeks about who Floyd Mayweather will be facing on May 3rd, WBA Welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is still in his native Santa Fe, Argentina - as he waits for news about whether it will be him who takes the spot.

In the meantime. Maidana engaged last night in a charity exhibition match against Argentine hot prospect Damián Sosa in a card at the small town of Santo Tome that generateed incredible expectations from fans and boxing press.

“I am still waiting for an official announcement on my next fight. My team is working on it, but nothing has been decided yet. They will probably give me the news in the next few days. Of course, I want to fight Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd,” said Maidana.

“Many people told me about polls. I don’t care about that. All I care is getting in the ring so I’m anxious to know who I’ll be facing.  Some say it would be Broner, others say it might be Mayweather and even Khan. So I hope they announce it this coming week,” added the hard puncher from Argentina.

Maidana’s manager Sebastian Contursi said that “we had conversations with Al Haymon and those included a few very big names for Marcos’ next fight. They are all attractive options and one of them is Mayweather.”
