LAS VEGAS --- The large crowd that filled the lobby of the MGM Grand for the fighter arrivals on Tuesday afternoon broke into loud soccer-style cheers for Marcos "El Chino" Maidana when he made his way to the stage.
Maidana, the WBA welterweight champion, is a huge underdog against pound-for-pound kingpin Floyd "Money" Mayweather on Saturday night on Showtime PPV, but he definitely has his supporters.
"I just want to thank all the fans out here that are supporting me," Maidana said over the cheers.
"I know a lot of people think I'm going to lose this fight. I come to win. I'm not afraid of anybody. I'm not afraid of anything."
Maidana upset Adrien Broner, who faces Carlos Molina on the undercard, in December to land the shot against Mayweather.
"Mayweather is great, Mayweather is very fast, but I have support from all the Latino people," Maidana said, "and I'm going to come to win."
