Luke Campbell says he is more than happy to face Devin Haney if the American wants to try to regain his WBC lightweight title.

Campbell took part in an Instagram Live chat with promoter Eddie Hearn on Friday, the day he should have been facing Javier Fortuna for the vacant WBC title.

The belt had been taken away from Haney, who had been made “champion in recess” after suffering a shoulder injury, requiring surgery, when he beat Alfredo Santiago in November.

But the prolonged shutdown of the sport due to the coronavirus has led to the American to say his is now fit to return and has petitioned the WBC to get his belt back.

Campbell, the 2012 Olympic gold medallist, was prompted by Hearn to call out Haney and said that he would have no trouble facing him.

“I’ve never been one of those fighters that starts slagging another fighter off,” Campbell said. “This is a sport.

“If he is in my way, I’ll fight him, not a problem and I’ll beat him, not a problem as well.

“He does talk a lot. He has got in touch with the WBC to be emailed champion yet again, which is fine, if that’s the way he wants to do it. I’m here to fight and I want to prove I am the best and that’s it.

“I believe in myself, I believe in what I have got, my skill set, my heart and everything else that goes with it.”

Haney had got up early in Las Vegas to watch the Instagram Live chat and Campbell had a parting message for him.

“Devin Haney looks an all-round solid fighter, but I have boxed three former world champions and two three-weight world champions both in the top ten pound-for-pound list when I fought them,” he said.

“Haney is yet to be tested, he’s calling out everyone, so that being said, let’s fight, let’s see him against someone who is highly rated, who has proven himself at world level and see how he does.... is he going to sink, is he going to swim? We’ll have to find out.”
