Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale - Former welterweight world champion Luis Collazo (38-7, 20 KOs) showed no signs of ring rust, as he dominated the younger Bryant Perrella (15-2, 13 KOs) on pace to a ten round majority decision. The scores were a crazy 95-95, 98-92 and 96-94.
In his last bout, Collazo secured a stunning knockout sixth round knockout over Sammy Vasquez.
Perrella is one fight removed from a fourth round knockout loss to Yordenis Ugas in September of 2016. He scored an eight round decision win over Alex Martin in December 2017.
Both had their moments in the first two rounds round. Collazo was trying to walk Perrella down, but taking some shots while walking in. The left side of Collazo's face was swelling as they entered the third.
Collazo was applying a lot of pressure and not stepping away from staying on top of Perrella at all times. He started tagging Perrella with heavy shots in the final twenty seconds of the third. A cut opened up outside of the right eye of Collazo during the action.
A left hand to temple rocked Perrella in the fourth round. Collazo went for the finish and started unloading with big punches. Collazo once again had him in trouble during the seventh, with Perrella being able to survive.
Collazo continued to punish him in the eight and ninth, as Perrella was basically on the move and looking to last the distance at this point.
Also on the card, Junior welterweight prospect Gary Antuanne Russell (7-0, 7 KOs), who is the brother of WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr., blew away Jose Arturo Esquivel (10-8, 2 KOs) in less than 30 seconds of the first round.
Russell came out with a hard shot to the body, which saw Esquivel go down in pain and he was down for some time as the contest was waved off without much of a count.
