We will finally get to see if Lucian Bute (20-0, 16KOs) is the real deal or just another hyped-up fighter. InterBox announced on Thursday that Bute, of Montreal, Canada will face Alejandro Berrio (26-4, 25KOs) of Colombia for the IBF super middleweight title on Oct. 11 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The two side came to terms on Wednesday and the agreement was later approved by the IBF.
Bute is one of the most popular fighters in Canada, and regarded as one of the most gifted. He became the mandatory after winning a unanimous decision over Sakio Bika in June. Berrio won the vacant IBF title in March after he stopped Robert Stieglitz in three rounds.
Bute is overjoyed with the title opportunity and tells the Canadian Press that he expects a tough fight from Berrio.
"He has 25 knockouts, so he hits hard," Bute said. "He's aggressive and he has a good record. But I'm not afraid of that. I'm happy to fight in front of my fans. I've already started my preparations and I'm confident I will win and become world champion."
