Daniel Lozano and David Carmona are ready to bring closure to the Telemundo Super Flyweight tournament, as the bracket finals are set for Friday in Arcadia, Florida.
Both fighters checked in at the 115 lb. divisional limit for the headlining bout of the
Boxeo Telemundo
2015 Spring season finale.
Lozano (13-1, 10KOs) blasted his way to the finals with a pair of knockouts. The Bowling Green (FL) native kicked off his tournament run with an 8th round stoppage of Angel Tostado Garcia last summer before taking out Jonathan Vidal in the 4th round of their semifinals battle last October.
Both wins took place in Tampa, where Lozano has developed a sizeable fan base. Friday's bout marks his first true home game, with the hosting venue just 30 minutes from his current residence.
Carmona (18-2-4, 8KOs) was forced to work a little harder for his trip to Friday's finals. The fallen title contender rebounded with decision wins over Ricardo Rodriguez and Martin Casillas, each coming one week apart from Lozano's aforementioned knockout victories.
The winner will likely land a shot at the WBO junior bantamweight title. Also possible is a bid at a vacant interim title, as current champ Naoya Inoue is still rehabiliting from injuries and is likely out of the ring until mid-summer at the earliest.
