Jose Lopez is going through the final motions in training camp. He is only a few days away from his September 4 defense of the WBO super flyweight title against a fighter being hyped as the second coming of a Filipino great, Marvin Sonosna. The defense takes place on neutral ground at Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

"I am well pleased. I feel good about what I've accomplished. That's what everyone wants to do, not only be a champion but to defend his crown, though (the fight) is not in Puerto Rico," Lopez told El Nuevo Dia. "We understand it is a neutral site in Canada. He (Sonson) is Filipino and I am Puerto Rican, there is no problem about that. The WBO sent their officers."

Lopez has the clear edge in experience but he won't overlook the power and youth of Sonsona.

"I'm training as hard as ever, running strong, work hard in the gym. It's a fight like any other. You just have to train hard. I always go in the best condition. It's a young opponet, left-handed, a little taller than me. We are coming well prepared for what they bring.

"My seniority is being imposed. I do not think he (Sonsona) brings anything that I have not seen before. Yes I can bring something he has never seen by his inexperience. That may be a big factor ... but I can not put my trust in [winning the fight based on the] fact that he is less experienced than me, and we have not," Lopez said.
