The WBO's purse split for Gary Russell vs. Vasyl Lomachenko will have to be examined, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Last week, Golden Boy won the promotional rights with a bid of $1,052,250, barely beating out Top Rank's offer of $1,050,000. Golden Boy is planning to stage the fight on June 21 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

According to the WBO's rules, Lomachenko is entitled to 60% of the split - $631,350 - with Russell getting 40% or $420,900. While Russell is the mandatory challenger to the vacant WBO featherweight title, Lomachenko is entitled to more money, says the WBO.

In the WBO's rules, it reads the following: "If the fight is held in the country of origin, residence or nationality of one of the contenders, the resident contestant shall receive 40 percent and his opponent shall receive 60 percent off the total purse offered."

Schaefer says Lomachenko's residence needs to be confirmed. While the fighter hails from Ukraine, Schaefer says the Olympic gold medal winner lists his residence as Marina del Rey, California.

"We asked the WBO to clarify the situation as it relates to the purse split, because Lomachenko lists his residence as Marina del Rey, California. If he is in fact a resident of the United States, then it should be a 50-50 split," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

A source close to Lomachenko's team informed BoxingScene that Lomachenko's manager rents him a home in California for the purpose of occupying the dwelling during training camp. Besides living there during training camp, the boxer spends all of his time in Ukraine.
