After his disputed majority decision loss to Danny Garcia in mid-April, former IBF junior welterweight belt-holder Lamont Peterson is now looking ahead to his next fight. And it looks like it will come after the summer months.
"We're supposedly going in September anywhere between the 4th and the 12th. So we're working on that now,'' said Barry Hunter, the trainer/manager of Peterson, who is affiliated with Al Haymon and the PBC.
As for who they might face, Hunter answered - "We're waiting on a list of names now but I hope Danny Garcia is high on the list."
Garcia has a fight on August 1st versus Paulie Malignaggi at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, so that seems a bit unrealistic.
But when you ask who Hunter prefers, he says with a chuckle,"Garcia, Garcia, Garcia."
"But you know me, we aint going to discriminate,"Hunter continued. "Whoever will go out there and give us a fight - that's what it is."
Now the question is moving forward: does Peterson - after facing Garcia at a catch-weight of 143-pounds - go back down to junior welterweight, where he has campaigned for much of his career?
"Of course we can make 140 but I don't want to do the 140 if there isn't a title on the line. We were very, very, comfortable at 143. Lamont, because of his frame and his body can easily make 147 so he's kinda stuck between the two. But I know he was very comfortable at 143, for sure."
