WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (34-3-1, 29 KOs) is deep in training for his upcoming defense against Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (51-1-2, 34 KOs).
The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be streamed live exclusively on DAZN.
Kovalev is coming off a tough TKO win over mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde, from back in August. Canelo unified three middleweight titles back in May, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs.
Canelo is moving up in weight by two full divisions, to take on Kovalev at 175-pounds.
Canelo, who never fought beyond the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds, is widely viewed as the favorite to win the fight.
The big factor, is Canelo's ability to dig hard shots to the body - and Kovalev's past fights where body shots would physically break him down.
But Kovalev's head trainer, former world champion Buddy McGirt, believes the tables can easily be turned - because the veteran coach is not convinced that Canelo is capable of taking hard shots to the body.
"Everything has been great, thank God. I can't complain. The training is running on time. Camp has been great because we haven't been looking at Canelo like the smaller guy. We're not looking to go into this fight as the bigger, stronger guy. We're looking to go in there as the better and smarter fighter," McGirt said.
"People have been asking about Canelo's body attack. But nobody likes getting hit to the body. I don't care who you are. But the thing is this: What's going to happen when Canelo gets hit to the body? Guys that like to go to the body, don't like it when you to go to their body."
