Los Angeles, California - WBA/WBO/IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey 'Krusher' Kovalev (30-0, 26KOs) is not keeping his strategy a secret. He wants to pull off a knockout victory over Olympic gold medal winner Andre Ward (30-0, 15KOs).
Ward, who dominated the super middleweight division for years, will face Kovalev for his set of titles on November 19th, potentially at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the contest.
Right now the two promoters, Roc Nation Sports and Main Events, are working out the details with finalizing the venue.
Kovalev is coming off a tougher than expected twelve round decision win over battle tested Isaac Chilemba, which took place in Russia last month. He felt the experience was a necessary evil to prepare himself for a fighter with the skill level of Ward.
"I was happy with the victory over Chilemba. This guy was not a punching bag. He was very uncomfortable for me. The show was great and thank you very much to the Russian Copper Company that helped promote the show in Russia - they made it similar to a show in the USA. I was happy with my last fight and it was good preparation for my next fight for November 19," Kovalev said.
Kovalev's John David Jackson has doubts about Ward's ability to hurt his fighter. He doesn't see any punching power to be concerned about. Kovalev is not taking any unnecessary chances.
"I think so, yes. He was power - he will be a lot heavier and has been in his last two fights. He has been fighting twelve rounds to get enough experience for November 19. We saw the power when he fought in the super middleweight division. Sure, I will try to knock him out because I am Krusher and I try to live up to my nick-name. Let's do it," Kovalev said.
