BoxingScene.com and ES News recently caught up with WBA/WBO/IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (27-0-1, 24KOs) who faces Nadjib Mohammedi on July 25th in Las Vegas in a HBO televised main event.
The 32-year-old Russian is known for his crushing punching power and used to train under the guidance of Abel Sanchez who trains another hard hitting fighter in Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).
When asked if they have sparred before, Kovalev had this to say - "Sure when I lived in Big Bear when we had the same training camp we sparred a lot of times. You know his punches are not heavy but make you feel pain. Heavy is like a 'boom' but his punches are more sharp - heavy but even more than heavy. He is a very hard puncher," Kovalev stated.
As for who hits harder, Kovalev gave it up to the middleweight kingpin.
"Gennady is my friend. He is one of my favorite boxers. He is the most hard hitting. He is the biggest puncher," said Kovalev.
