Michael Koncz, adviser to WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, has brushed off the recent statements that were made by actor Sylvester Stallone, who gave Pacquiao's upcoming opponent, Chris Algieri, a public endorsement of support.
Stallone, who is best known for his boxing movie character Rocky Balboa, is picking Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) to beat Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs) on November 22nd at the Venetian in Macau, China. Stallone called Algieri a real life Rocky.
“In my business life imitates art. But in Chris’ case I think it’s the other way around,” Stallone said. “Watching Chris rebound from those two first-round knockdowns against Ruslan Provodnikov and out-box him the next 11 rounds to win the title was more than an upset.”
“It was Rocky-esque. As for his fight against Manny Pacquiao on November 22, all I can say to you Chris is great movies deserve great sequels and I won’t be the least surprised to see you give us one in Macao.”
Koncz is predicting a Pacquiao beating, by knockout, and says Stallone can't do anything to prevent that outcome.
“Sylvester Stallone won’t be inside the ring when Manny whips Algieri’s ass on November 22 in Macau,” Koncz told The Manila Times. “It’s just part of the promotion.”
