This weekend’s edition of ‘Sabados de Box’ on Televisa pits Mexico versus Argentina in the main event and co-feature attraction in Ecatepec, Mexico.
Headlining the show, popular flyweight Jessica Chavez faces Maria Magdalena Rivera in a 10-round regional title fight. Both fighters easily made weight; Chavez (22-4-3) tipped the scales at 110.25 lbs., while Rivera (5-2-3) was well under the limit at 109.8 lbs.
In the evening’s chief support, super middleweight contender Marco Antonio Periban faces Argentina’s Carlos Adan Jerez in a 10 round non-title fight.
Periban (21-3-1) weighed 167.5 lbs. for his first fight since signing with Promociones del Pueblo. Jerez (42-18-3) weighed 165.5 lbs. for his second career fight in Mexico. His previous trip came nearly seven years ago, lasting the full 10-round distance in a points loss to a then-unbeaten 18-year old prospect named Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The show also includes the pro debut of Rafael 'Bazooka' Limon, Jr., son of the famed boxer of the same name who starred in a number of epic wars during the 1980s.
