Amir Khan's search for an opponent for his April 16th homecoming took another twist earlier this evening when Kell Brook announced to the Boxrec British forum that he is willing to fight at catch-weight and is also willing to take whatever monetary terms Team Khan are offering.
Kell's identity was confirmed by fellow professional, and Boxrec poster, Tony Bellew; the move shows the lengths Brook is prepared to go in order to keep his name in the frame for a showdown against his Bolton-born rival.
'Special K' is the current British and WBO Inter-continental title-holder; the 24-year-old moved to 23-0 (16) with a second round icing of Philip Kotey in Liverpool on December 11th. Kell has called for Khan before, most notably when speaking to BoxingScene before the turn of the year, and a fight offer was tabled by Frank Warren, who promotes Brook.
Khan, however, is determined to orchestrate his own Manchester MEN showcase; the WBA light-welterweight title-holder has made it clear that he will have the final say over any potential opponent and will not be used as a “cash cow”.
Paul McCloskey is currently negotiating with Khan yet Kell's virtual offer, if crystallised into a viable opportunity, could present Khan with a new possibility should the McCloskey bout fall by the wayside.
Certainly, Brook has kept his name in the frame in recent weeks, his undefeated record, not to mention his position as one of Britain's premier welterweights, would turn this into a big domestic fight should the two teams sit around the table and thrash out a deal.
