Kansas prospect Marco “El Tiburon” Romero returns on Friday just two weeks after his last bout.
Romero is now 8-0 (7 KOs), and is headed to Wichita where he will box on the card topped by former WBC champion Deontay Wilder, who meets Tyrrell Herndon in a heavyweight 10-rounder.
The card is being promoted by Global Combat Collective and Romero is due to face another unbeaten fighter over six rounds in Hawaii’s Andre Amaro, who has scored stoppages in his two pro fights to date.
The bill takes place at the Charles Koch Arena and is being distributed by BLK Prime.
The fight marks Romero’s fourth outing of the year. On June 14, in Portland, Maine, he stopped Nafys Anas Garner in two rounds.
“Any opportunity I have to step in the ring, especially in Kansas, I’m going to give the audience my best,” Romero said. “It’s important for me to put on a show to gain new fans in Kansas and from around the world. Anybody who wants to get on the ‘El Tiburon’ train is welcome.”
Romero’s manager and trainer, John Brown, said: “Marco is excited to be on this card that is so close to his home, and he is more than ready to notch his ninth victory. He’s inching his way to Kansas City, where he will have the opportunity to display his talents in front of a home crown on September 6 in his hometown of Olathe, Kansas.”
