Junior middleweight Justin Figueroa says it has finally clicked for him.

Figueroa faces Jarrod Tennant in an eight-round bout at the Tech Port Arena in San Antonio, Texas.

“My coaches told me one of these fights you are going to click over,” Figueroa, 26, said. “I kept trying to understand what they meant by click over.”

He felt like he had trained as hard as anyone else. He wasn’t afraid of any opponent out there, and then he had a revelation one day in the gym.

“Then it finally hit me,” Figueroa said. “Just going in there, and it was pure dominance. Going in there and knowing exactly what you had to do.”

Figueroa noted that this moment of leveling up has now carried over into this fight as he feels he has had the best camp of his career.

“My mentality and confidence going into this fight are the best it has ever been,” Figueroa said. “Due to the work I put in, due to the sparring, and what my ability is, and knowing Jolene Mizzone [his manager] puts me in the best position possible.”

Tennant, 9-5 (5 KOs), is a Los Angeles-based fighter who enters the fight on a two-fight losing skid with both unanimous decision losses occurring this year. Tennant, 40, has never been stopped and is one of two fighters to see the final bell with Marques Valle. Figueroa shared his thoughts on his upcoming opponent.

“His nickname is Technician, and I guess I can give him that; it looks like he fights on his back foot,” Figueroa said. “I would say he is more of a defensive fighter, and I am going to bring it to him, because if we are both in there posing, I know San Antonio might get a little rowdy.”
