WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (23-0, 21KOs) is training hard for his appearance on the biggest event of the year. Juanma will appear on the HBO pay-per-view undercard to Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao. None of his fights in 2008 have gone beyond three rounds and he plans to make another explosion. His opponent will be Sergio Medina (33-1, 18KOs) of Argentina.
"After the fight against Cesar Figueroa (October 4), I took me some days off to relax with my family before returning to the gym. I already I have a camp so the question is to make some adjustments and to begin my drop in weight," Juanma told El Nuevo Dia. "I've been in the gym full-time for the last week."
Juanma says that Figuaroa and Medina have similiar styles, so he doesn't need to make a lot of adjustments in the camp from the last fight.
"The big question is the work that needs to be done. Medina has a style very similiar to that of Figueroa. I don't have to make a lot of adjustments or changes. The main thing is to have good conditioning, to make a good drop in weight and do good work."
"This time I'm only going to have seven or eight sparring sessions. We are going to start with six round sessions, then quickly jump to eight rounds and then to twelve. We will tune up and arrive at the fight in the best condition possible."
Juanma gave his thoughts on De La Hoya-Pacquiao, stating that De La Hoya had a lot of options and doesn't think it's a fair fight.
"I don't think the fight between De La Hoy and Pacquiao is the most attractive one. De La Hoya had a lot of options. Perhaps he could have fought Daniel Santos or a rematch with Felix Trinidad. I don't think Pacquiao is a good fighter, but this is not an even fight. However, the event is soldout and everyone is going to see who wins," Lopez said.
