WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez is not banking on a quick knockout when he defends his title against WBO bantamweight champ Gerry Penalosa on April 25 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. HBO will televise. While he is ready to go the distance, he believes that Penalosa will fold in six rounds.
"If you think I just started training for Penalosa, you are wrong. I've been training since January because this fight is a challenge, Juanma told Primera Hora. "I'm ready for twelve rounds. If the fight lasts one, two or three, I have to train just as hard. I hope to be finished quickly. I know I have the ability to stop Penalosa. If Penalosa comes in to fight and gets hit with my right hook, the fight will be finished before the twelfth round."
Juanma has been deep in training. He appears to be confident that Penalosa will not see the seventh round.
"I'm at about 70 percent right now. I've been training since January, when they began to negotiate for a fight with Penalosa. I have no doubt that it will be over in the sixth round," Juanma said.
