WBO interim-junior welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) confirmed a Monday afternoon report on BoxingScene.com, stating that he won't return to action on July 14th as previously scheduled. Marquez struggled to finalize an opponent, insisting on a southpaw foe to prepare himself for a possible fourth meeting with Manny Pacquiao in the fall.
The July 14th event was going to be a pay-per-view showcase at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Because the weeks were quickly passing by, and Marquez wasn't close to finalizing an opponent, there wasn't enough time for Top Rank to properly promote the pay-per-view event at Cowboys Stadium.
However, Marquez has not completely ruled out the possibility of fighting in July. According to Marquez, there is still a possibility that he might return to the ring on July 21 or July 28th, with a different venue hosting the fight. Marquez is still mentally focused on fighting a southpaw, with potential opponents like Mercito Gesta, Zab Judah and Cesar Cuenca being mentioned by the Mexican veteran.
