Promoter Hector Garcia of HG Boxing is planning to stage the super featherweight bout between Juan Carlos Salgado and Argenis Mendez on July 23 in Guadalajara, Mexico. The two fighters have been ordered to face each other for the vacant IBF super featherweight title.
Salgado is looking forward to the fight. He already held the WBA's version of the title when he stopped Jorge Linares in a single round, but then lost the belt in his first defense to Takashi Uchiyama. Salgado has a record of 23 wins, 1 loss and 16 wins by knockout, and Mendez has a record of 18 wins, 1 loss and 9 wins by knockout. Salgado will be trained by the legendary Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain.
"I want to be world champion again and I am working out at the gym. A month before the fight and I am motivated to return to reign in the super featherweight division. We are at the stage where we are working on strength by working the force in the hands and legs. We felt very good and next week we'll start with speed. Mendez will be very dangerous because of his speed and are working hard to neutralize that, and to impose our style and technique in the ring," Salgado told Osiris Cruz.
