A promising young boxer was brutally killed with a machete while protecting his four sisters during an attack at the family home in Mexico City, Mexico.
The Mirror in England reported that Josue David Hernandez was just 20 years old and preparing for his professional debut in early 2026 following a successful amateur career. The young boxer was at his family home with his four sisters when a man broke in. During the incident, one of his sisters was attacked, and Hernandez bravely intervened to shield her from the assailant who was armed with a machete. Hernandez made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his family and was fatally wounded. Emergency responders reached the house but sadly pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene with the attacker nowhere to be found. The suspect remains on the run.
The Daily Star reported that Hernandez was regarded as an emerging talent in Mexican boxing. He had already shone in his initial amateur contests after beginning the sport aged 15, competing in regional championships and securing multiple titles. His success in the amateurs and sparring with elite professionals prompted Hernandez’s decision to turn professional just five years after first lacing up the gloves.
Hernandez trainer, former world title contender Titan Rodriguez, who is also part of David Picasso’s training set up ahead of his clash with Naoya Inoue on December 27, took to social media following the heartbreaking news.
The post read: “Today, I woke up to the devastating and heartbreaking news that you [Hernandez] are no longer here. My friend, my brother, my running partner. So many dreams to fulfil. So many conversations and all the trust we had in each other to achieve everything. A part of my heart goes with you.
“God only knows why these things happen, your passing hurts me deeply, and I’m going to work incredibly hard to achieve all the goals we had together. I love you very much, Josue David Hernandez, may God receive you in his holy kingdom. It’s time to shine in heaven, my king.”
