BoxingScene.com has learned that WBC silver welterweight champion Josesito Lopez has signed Al Haymon as an advisor to his newly burgeoning boxing career.

“Yeah we had talks all weekend with Al and the things he advised Josesito on were too good to pass up.” Henry Ramirez, trainer and manager of Lopez, told BoxingScene.

Lopez, whose victory over Victor Ortiz stunned the boxing community, has been advised by Team Ortiz that they plan on exercising the rematch clause they had for their first fight. However, Lopez also envisions taking a fight in the interim while Ortiz heals from the two fractures in his jaw he suffered in the fight with Lopez.

“Al told Jose he was in it for the long run and while we wanted to capitalize on Jose’s new found fame. I also know that Jose and I wanted to secure him [financially] for the rest of his life. Al can provide that for him”

Lopez and Ramirez were both also very happy with Haymon’s actual role with Lopez and his career

“The great thing about what Al told us was that he didn’t care about who Jose wanted on his team, who trained him, who managed him, etc. His sole interest was to maximize Jose’s earning potential while also maximizing who he gets into the ring with now and in the future.”

Lopez can be heard on the Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com’s official audio show,  describing the victory over Ortiz and his future plans here.
