Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker could potentially return to the ring in Queenstown.
According to Newshub, Parker's team members held a series of meetings with officials in Queenstown, where they discussed the different terms required to stage an event in the capital.
Parker (27-2, 21 KOs) had last seen action in February, when he traveled to Texas and stopped overmatched Shawndell Winters in five rounds.
Parker's manager, David Higgins, views Queenstown as a great location for his fighter's return.
"We love the place and Joseph had a great time," Higgins says. "I don't want to jump the gun - I mean, we're looking at all options on the table, but it'd be great here, wouldn't it?
"The economy sorely needs it, so I'm hoping the powers-that-be can connect the dots and we can make something happen. A fight in the bubble could be distributed to 100 countries, seen by a billion people globally, but also locally providing jobs, revenue for suppliers and great tourism promotion.
"Joseph Parker would be fighting in the United States, Europe or the United Kingdom, were it not for this situation [with the coronavirus pandemic]."
There are four locations being considered - Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington and Queenstown - to host Parker's next fight - which is targeted to happen in late August or early September.
Queenstown mayor Jim Boult is confident of securing the event. He plans ask the government for help in getting the negotiations over the financial line.
"We've had some initial discussions about it," Boult tells Newshub. "I think it's a really, really good opportunity.
Several opponents have been mentioned to fight Parker, with the most well known being former WBA world champion Lucas Browne.
