Mexico's Jose Felix Jr. has been reading the press clippings, that he's being targeted to face Puerto Rican star Felix Verdejo on June 11th at New York's Madison Square Garden.
As BoxingScene.com's Steve Kim first reported, Verdejo first has to beat Daniel Evangelista Jr. (and hopefully without injury) on April 16th at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan.
Verdejo (20-0, 14 KO's) vs. Evangelista (18-6-2, 14 KO's) will headline an UniMas card.
According to Felix, he has not received a proposal for the fight, but hopes Top Rank approaches him about the fight.
"If the promoter asks me, I am available for him, but they have not told me anything yet. So far these are just rumor. I know that everyone will support him but believe me it will be a good fight," Felix told ESPN Deportes.
"I think beating Verdejo would represent something important, because he was an Olympian and because everyone believes that he will be the next great figure of Puerto Rican boxing. We both have the dream of being stars and the winner will surely be one step closer. I think he has progressed well, he needs to face more name fighters to help his level go up and that's why people like this fight. He's fought with a lot of Brazilians - but as Chavez said - this is not soccer, this is boxing and he needs more quality opponents."
Felix has a record of 33-1-1, and 25 knockouts.
