Junior welterweight prospect Jorge de Jesus has signed a promotional deal with Sampson Boxing.
The 23-year-old De Jesus, 14-1 (10 KOs), of Lawrenceville, Georgia has won nine straight, including a split decision over the previously unbeaten LaVonte Earley in May on the undercard of the ProBox TV card headlined by Erickson Lubin’s eleventh-round stoppage win over Ardreal Holmes Jnr.
Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz says the plan is to get De Jesus back into the ring by late summer or early fall.
“I am very happy to be working with Jorge and his team,” said Lewkowicz. “He showed what he is made of on ProBox TV by pulling out that exciting victory. We are going to keep him busy and put him in with the right opponents to fine tune him into the next great Puerto Rican/American world champion.”
De Jesus, who traces his roots back to Bayamon, Puerto Rico, turned pro in 2022 after just five amateur fights. He has guided his career mostly internationally, fighting throughout the Dominican Republic and Thailand, where he scored a second-round stoppage of former WBO bantamweight titleholder Panya Uthok in October of 2024.
The Earley fight was by far the highest profile victory of his career, however.
“I had no doubt I was going in there to win. Losing was not an option,” said the southpaw in a press release. “I was extremely focused and did everything right. Winning made me feel like the hard work is paying off. I feel like a top professional now.”
De Jesus is managed by Andy Sun, and trains out of Felipe Boxing Gym in Norcross, Georgia. In addition to boxing, De Jesus is also a civil engineering student at Emory University.
