FRESNO, California – Local bantamweight ticket-seller Jordan Fuentes will face his toughest fight to date against Angel Munoz.
The six-round bout will take place at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, and will go on after the ProBox TV card concludes.
Fuentes, 5-0 (2 KOs), is currently signed by Golden Boy Promotions, but will be fighting for the second time in Fresno, in front of a heavy fan presence. Fuentes moved up the USA Boxing ranks after the tragic passing of his sister, Jolissa. Since he turned pro in August 2024, Fuentes has steadily improved, but in his last fight, he found he could draw a crowd. Fuentes, 20, had fans staying after the television portion of the ProBox TV card that saw Francisco Veron win a unanimous decision over Vladimir Hernandez. What they witnessed was a first-round knockout of Steveen Angeles Cruz.
“I am ready to get in the ring and do my thing,” Fuentes told BoxingScene. “He has a winning record, and I do, too. We are both going to try and protect that.”
Munoz, 3-1 (2 KOs), is a rough, physical fighter who hails from Baldwin Park, California. The 20-year-old’s corner includes Sam Contreras Snr and Carlos Rodriguez, who are also involved in the development of unbeaten prospects Samuel Contreras Jnr and Kevin Anton. Anton recently caught attention by stopping Isaias Lucero in September.
“I feel like this is going to be an upset,” Munoz told BoxingScene. “I am confident in myself, and that is why I took this fight.”
Rick Mirigian, Fuentes’ manager, has referenced Fuentes fighting at the SaveMart Center in front of thousands of fans as ideal preparation for bigger nights in the future. Fuentes will be the regional main event going on after the television broadcast, fighting in the same arena in which Jose Ramirez defended his world title.
“I think Fuentes is the future of the sport at that weight,” Mirigian told BoxingScene. “These events prep Jordan also for crowds, excitement… getting him accustomed to the noise, the cheers, maybe the boos sometimes. To me, that is all part of prepping a fighter when they are special and you think they could be great.”
Fuentes will face his most distinguished opponent on paper. He finds motivation from his local fans as he hopes to become a major ticket seller to bring major fights to Fresno for years to come.
“I am blessed to fight in my hometown,” Fuentes said. “I think it is a big motivation when I have the crowd on my side.”
