John Molina Jr. will once again be working with trainer Joe Goossen for his upcoming bout with former three-division titleholder and current super lightweight contender Adrien Broner on the undercard of the March 7 “Premier Boxing Champions” show on NBC.
Molina had been with Goossen through his back-and-forth brawl with Lucas Matthysse last April, but worked with Jose Santa Cruz — father of 122-pound titleholder Leo Santa Cruz — for his September bout against Humberto Soto.
“I changed my camp. It came down to location,” Molina was quoted as saying to Fightnews last year. “It wasn’t because I didn’t like one guy, it’s a different style with Jose Santa Cruz. Joe is a great trainer, but it came down to location. I was making a 98-mile drive. It didn’t make any sense. City of Industry is a lot closer than the valley. My family life gets chopped up. No bad feelings. Joe Goossen is a hell of a trainer.”
Molina lost a decision to Soto and now is back with Goossen. He is 27-5 with 22 KOs.
