Super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe says that his upcoming light heavyweight showdown with Roy Jones Jr., scheduled for November 8 at New York's Madison Square Garden, will probably be the final fight of his career. If that's the case, it would rule out a potential bout with WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, should the Youngstown fighter beat Bernard Hopkins on October 18 in Atlantic City.

"It’s no secret that this will probably be my last fight, so what better way to go out than by fighting one of the best fighters of the past 25 years. And at Madison Square Garden, too, so it's fantastic," Calzaghe said during a Setanta Sports press conference. "There’s just over 12 weeks to go now so I’ll start serious training from Monday on. So, I’m really looking forward to the fight. It’s going to be a tremendous night and I want to go out and make sure I fight a brilliant fight.

Calzaghe says that he's not happy with the way his April fight with Bernard Hopkins turned out, but feels the fight with Jones will produce a lot of fireworks.

”I wasn’t that happy with my last fight, the win over Bernard Hopkins. Styles make fights that that clash didn’t make for a good fight. But Roy Jones doesn’t like to hold and I don’t like to hold – so I think that there’ll be fireworks. I'm pretty sure it will be my last fight."

"There are always question marks but as long as I go out and produce a performance and win this fight, well, then I'll feel like I've achieved everything I want to achieve in boxing. It's a mistake many fighters make: just fighting for the money. They eventually get beaten but how many fighters retire undefeated? Very, very few. To get out undefeated means more to me than money. It will be my last fight."
