In a recent BoxingScene.com interviews, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer stated that it's getting harder to secure opponents for undefeated welterweight puncher Keith Thurman (22-0, 20KOs).
Schaefer wants to bring Thurman back on April 26th in a Showtime televised fight from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
One welterweight who is ready to accept the Thurman challenge is division veteran Jo Jo Dan (32-2, 17KOs), who last November won a twelve round split decision over previously undefeated Kevin Bizier. Now Dan has set his sights on Thurman's high welterweight ranking and his WBA interim-title.
"I am a 10 year pro veteran and I never shy away from seeking the best challenges out there. I don't want the easy work...I feed on adversity and difficult fights. So, if other top welterweights avoid Keith Thurman, I am not...I am officially calling him out.....my career goal is to be World Champion and make exciting fights,...Keith, I respect your achievements and skills but it is time to accept a challenge from someone who has seen it all...Let's do this," Dan said.
The fighter's manager, Chris Ganescu, added the following:
"I have been with Jo Jo Dan for a long time and I strongly believe he's got something of the old school fighter. He has always asked to fight the best and his challenge of Keith is proof of that.
"Thurman is rightfully avoided by many..he is young, strong and skillful...but with Jo Jo Dan, he is going into unknown territory...it will be a learning experience and a first loss for the champion...I hope he accepts my fighter's challenge, boxing fans are in for a treat and a candidate of Fight of the Year."
